Crate Escape too ‘Renovation Celebration’ Date Change

Quick! Change your calendars! The Crate Escape too party is on October 8th, 2011, from 5:30 – 7:30. We asked your dogs to tell you of the date change, but some might not have relayed the message. Join us!
Crate Escape too IS open on Saturdays, 9am – 5pm. Visit us, stock up on dog food, surprise your pooch with a new toy or collar and it’s not too soon to think about holiday presents. Plus, if you haven’t seen our new ‘decor’ it’s beeeauuuutiful!

Ernestine Update
Ernie is working on a new column for the blog which will update you on dog specific info that she hears about and wants to pass on. Since the column is not up quite yet…. here are our current scoops.
Did you know that the less expensive pinch collars are sharp and dangerous?? The ‘Herm Sprenger’ German collars are the best, with rounded prongs.
Did you know that most rawhide is sourced in China and formaldehyde is used in preparation?
Did you know that supporting local businesses (or at least ‘Made in America’) is a great boost to our economy and creates jobs?
Did you know that measuring your dog’s food can often help her keep a consistent healthy weight?
Tell your friends!
Thanks, Ernestine

The Crates Foster/ Adoption Project
We have a chance to help a couple of shelters find foster and forever homes for their dogs. Our first treasure is Ty, a fox terrier, who became available to us through a NH shelter. We quickly found a foster home (through one of our employees – the network’s working!) and we are on an ardent search towards the next step; to find the right owner/ family for him. He is adorable, sweet, good with cats, kids and other dogs. We are counting on your help to develop our MA network of fosters and homes interested in adopting. You are key in this network, please help spread the word! You can sign up to foster anytime at either of the Crates and we will tell you about available dogs.

Take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and share a long walk with your pup.
We will be back next week!

Crate Escape too Reopening Saturdays

Crate Escape too will be open on Saturdays starting September 10, 2011. Our Saturday hours will be from 9am – 5pm; one hour longer than before the renovation, woo hoo! Crate Escape is still open for daycare on Saturdays, by reservation only! You probably already know that on weekdays CEtoo is closing 1/2 hour later, at 6:30pm. Now the Crates have the same hours!

Chews A Cause
Starting this week, the Crates (CE and CEtoo) will be setting up donation bins where you may drop off dog and cat related items that you are no longer using. This is the 2nd quarter of ‘Chews A Cause’, our program which donates to different shelters every 3 months. Nevins Farm, in Methuen, MA. is our new recipient. Sponsored by the MSPCA, Nevins Farm is a unique 55-acre animal care complex that provides shelter and adoption services for both farm and companion animals. We have copies of their ‘Wish List’ at the front desks. We received so many wonderful donations for our first shelter, Buddy Dog, we look forward to helping the animals at Nevins Farm! Thank you.

Thinking about Fostering a Dog or Adopting a Pet?
The Crates are big advocates of ‘adopt don’t shop’ when someone wants to add a pet to his family. The number of homeless dogs has skyrocketed in the last 10 years. We have joined the attempt to find foster or forever homes for these pups.
If you have ever considered fostering a dog, we have lots of information and resources to help you decide. The most frequent comments about fostering are that it is challenging, but one of the most rewarding experiences the foster parents have ever had. It cannot be ignored that each time a dog is adopted or fostered it literally saves another shelter dog’s life. The shelter space is that much in demand. We will have more information to offer you. If you are currently interested in adopting or fostering a dog, or you know someone who is, please email, barbara@crate-escape.com. Thank you.

In Support of Pit Bulls
We have pit bulls in daycare who are wonderful dogs. In addition to ongoing media stories, all of the recent Michael Vick hoopla has created a wish to help educate people that this breed is widely misunderstood.
Coincidentally, there is a movie coming to the Arlington Regent Theater on September 15th at 7:30pm called ‘Beyond the Myth’. It is a documentary about pit bulls and breed discrimination. It is sponsored by mspca angell, Nevins Farm and PittieLove Rescue. Several people from Crate are going, more information and how to buy tickets is at:

http://www.beyondthemythmovie.com .

We hope to see you there!
