Dogs arrive in Newtown to comfort survivors
December 16, 2012
By Associated Press

CHICAGO — A team of golden retrievers made an 800-mile journey from the Chicago area to Newtown, Conn., over the weekend to comfort people affected by the shootings Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Lutheran Church Charities sent about 10 of the dogs for residents who want to pet them while they talk or pray with the dog’s handler, said Tim Hetzner, president of the Addison, Ill., organization.

“Dogs are nonjudgmental. They are loving. They are accepting of anyone,” Hetzner said. “It creates the atmosphere for people to share.”

Holiday Woofs from Ernestine
So, isn’t it exciting about Crate Belmont moving to Brighton St? We are so lucky to have found a building with large enough space, right across the street! Having said that, there has not been one thing that is easy about the renovation. The good news is, WE’RE ALMOST THERE!

And this is also a way of saying, Yea Charlestown!! We will be back next week to talk about you!

Happy Holidays. I hope you get a big blue ball for a present. They are the best!

Santa: Our Dogs are leaving you Screws, Flooring and Tools instead of Cookies!!

We have all been through some type of construction or other… Well, Crate Escape is at the hardest part! It was SUPPOSED to be done, then this and then that and, OH NO another week? In the grand scheme of the Canine Universe, we now know that Crate Escape on HITTINGER ST, BELMONT (moving from Flanders Rd.) will be opening before Charlestown Crate. We encountered WAY more glitches and delays than even Ernie could smell– but all is looking good and Santa should be able to take the tools and flooring, in the title line, to Charlestown.

THEN! 200 Terminal St., Charlestown! 17,000sf of playspace, grooming, retail and overnight space, with OUTDOOR potty space. In Boston, are you kidding me? Recent photos will be posted soon. We are checking out the Boston dogscene for potential customers. And, if you know dogpeople in Boston, give them a nudge about Charlestown Crate. Our van will go through the South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the North End for pick ups and drop offs. If you work in Boston, we are right under the Tobin Bridge, so it’s a quick trip off of 93 or through the North End. And if your referral becomes a customer, you get a free day of daycare! Thanks.

Crate Escape too, December 8th, 5-8pm. This is the Fourth Annual Fundraiser to Benefit the MSPCA Pictures are $15 for one dog and $20 for two dogs. Crate Escape matches the donations. Many of you have been with us the past three photo shoots, join us again! (tell your friends about that too!)

Would You Consider??
adopting or fostering a dog for the holiday season?
It sounds like a lot, and in some ways it is. But once true dog lovers understand that fostering or adopting a homeless dog literally saves a shelter dog’s life, we want to learn more. Social media has been amazing spreading the word about available dogs; shelters and rescue organizations are upfront and honest about adoptable dogs likes, dislikes and who they don’t get along with. Same as any dog. Think about it. It’s an incredible donation to the dog population!

It is amazing how many more people in the USA have been educated in the rescue/ shelter dog world over the last decade. As the number of homeless dogs continues to rise, so do the number of rescue organizations, the neuter/spay initiatives and the number of people committed to helping the cause.

A Word from our Rover Reporter and Construction Superintendent….
Wow, I knew I was amazing before, but now, coordinating our 2 construction projects, I know there is no other dog like me! And! please be aware that working with people is not my first choice! If I could recruit MY dog friends and relatives, thumbs or no thumbs, we would nail it! Anyway, both of my sites are looking wonderful and we can’t wait to finish and share the new Crate Escapes with you!

My brother, Emmit and I sending you Holiday Woofs-
