“Dogs may not be our whole life but they make our lives whole”
– Roger Caras
The quote above is a basic philosophy of Crate Escape. We provide a safe, fun environment where dogs can be dogs. We aim to help keep your dog happy, through exercise and socialization in a supervised environment.
Crate Escape too
Crate Escape too opened in 2004 as ‘Raining Cats & Dogs”. This extra special pet store originated through a beautiful iconic Jack Russell named Ernestine who tested all the products. The need for daycare in the surrounding neighborhoods quickly became obvious. A charming daycare was added which provides a wonderful place for dogs to make friends, play and socialize with other dogs. The store provides holistic and human grade dog food, which supports our belief that good food leads to good health. Our dog toys and treats are carefully selected to promise your dog has only positive experiences from our store. Last and best the daycare has a dog door to a beautiful fenced in outside yard. We welcome small to medium size dogs at this facility.
Canine Heaven! Here’s Crate Escape
Our flagship facility, Crate Escape, opened it’s doors in January, 2006, welcoming customers and their dogs and has never looked back. Because our owners, Bradley and Stephanie Hastings, have always been hands on their business, their caring about dogs is a big part of our definition. We are completely invested in getting to know your dogs and providing them with the best experience possible.
We moved! December 31, 2012
On December 31, 2012 we moved to a great building on 30 Brighton Avenue, corner of Hittinger St. It is literally across the street from the original Flanders Road location! With 17,000 sf of space, we have seven pens, into which dogs are separated based on where they will have the most fun. Our staff moved with us (of course); they are carefully selected, well-trained and experienced. We focus every day on giving your dog playtime, comfort and safety. We are proud of our success and we look forward to providing play space for many dogs to come. Our loyal customers are our best testament.
Crate Escape, 200 Terminal St. Charlestown, MA.
The third Crate Escape opened in Charlestown on January 28, 2013! The building space is perfect for a dog daycare! 17,000 sf of playspace, separated into 5 pens. We group the dogs based on temperament and size. We even have outside space; unheard of in Boston! Overnight boarding, grooming and van service complete the package. True to our promise, we maintain professional, well trained staff; many of Charlestown’s people came from other Crate Escapes. Our focus of playtime, safety and fun! transferred well to our first city Crate Escape!
Green Pet Care
We believe in taking care of our environment. This helps humans and pets alike. We constantly search and research products that will effectively benefit our daycare and our dogs. That means super careful selection of all cleaning, grooming and feeding supplies that touch our daycare. The pet industry is becoming more savvy about ‘keeping it simple’, organic and reducing our carbon footprint whenever possible.
What Makes Us Different?
We do it all. With a high standard of care, we provide daycare, van service, and overnight boarding to our daycare customers. Our ethic is to provide superior, satisfying service to your best friend and, of course to you!
We are open. 24/7, through holidays and snow storms! Our daycare is open from 7am – 6:30pm, Monday – Friday. Both Crate Escapes are open Saturdays from 9-5pm (by reservation only!) for daycare, retail purchases and grooming in Belmont (and soon Charlestown!) Crate Escapes in Belmont and Charlestown also do overnights and is open for overnight pick-ups and drop-offs from 8am-8pm, 7 days a week.
Ernestine Hastings was a beautiful, ‘puddin’ jack russell terrier. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer in January, 2015. Among all the other things she did for Crate Escape (founder, Top Dog, property selector, toy and treat tester), she wrote this website and the weekly blog. Here are her words, ‘All of you creatures, human and canine, reading this introduction, are here because of me. Because my owners love me so much, at first sight and forever-more, they knew, with me underseeing (19 lbs!) the development of the business, we had to succeed.’ (Yes, we know, Ernestine, right again!)
